Disposable Empires - Recreative, Denver
Disposable Empires is an exhibition that explores the ideology of consumption. Styrofoam packaging is used in an interactive sculpture where sensors, motors and lights reactivate take-out containers. Animating this harmful material depicts a dystopian future where Styrofoam gains consciousness and outlives us all.
A tower of plastic containers addresses the peripheral materials used for packaging, which are so ubiquitous that they begin to disappear from our consciousness. The tower represents the accumulation of 3 months of collecting. |
